Starbucks opened its first store on a Shinkansen platform at Shin-Yokohama Station. Here are six essential tips for using the automated store quickly and easily without missing your train.
Starbucks has opened its first-ever store on a Shinkansen bullet train platform at Shin-Yokohama Station (Tokaido Shinkansen, outbound platform 11). Even without a train ticket, you can access it with an entry ticket ('nyuujouken'). The store is near car 11.
This unique, takeout-only Starbucks uses touch panel terminals for ordering and offers a limited menu of quickly served items. You can order one drink and one food item per order. Only cashless payments are accepted. A staff member is available to assist with the system.
Expect a 5-minute wait, and note that the menu is limited to brewed coffee (hot or iced) and pre-packaged snacks. The store uses a special machine to serve freshly ground coffee into numbered lockers. Receipts have a QR code for refunds if needed.
