Glico has issued a recall of approximately six million Pocky units in Japan due to an off-flavor caused by cocoa beans stored near spices. While safe to eat, the recall addresses customer satisfaction concerns.
Glico, the maker of Pocky, has recalled millions of units across 20 product types in Japan after customers reported an unusual taste. The issue stems from cocoa beans stored near aromatic spices like cumin and cloves, which affected the chocolate's flavor.
For travelers in Japan, this means some Pocky products may taste different than expected. Check the expiration dates and JAN codes listed in the article if you've recently purchased Pocky in Japan. A replacement can be requested via an online form.
The recall is limited to products sold within Japan, though some JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) Pocky may have been imported elsewhere. Glico has apologized and is strengthening quality control to prevent future occurrences.
