The Former Maekawa Residence in Kyoto, once a base for the Shinsengumi, is preparing to open its doors to the public. This building holds a dark history, including the torture of anti-shogunate rebels and seppuku committed by samurai leaders. See sword marks left in wood from battles.
Travelers will gain a unique glimpse into samurai life, exploring the actual site where historical events unfolded. The residence also functioned as a currency exchange, with thick walls and security measures to protect gold coins.
Thanks to crowdfunding efforts, the residence is undergoing renovations to ensure visitor safety. The goal is to create a space where Shinsengumi fans can connect with the past and immerse themselves in samurai culture.
