Ishinomaki, Japan will deploy anti-bear drones equipped with pepper spray. This innovative approach aims to protect residents and tourists from bear encounters as they become more frequent.
The city of Ishinomaki in Miyagi Prefecture is preparing for potential bear encounters with a new strategy: anti-bear drones. These drones, equipped with cameras, GPS, and pepper spray, will be used to safely move bears away from populated areas.
Terra Drone, a Tokyo-based manufacturer, is supplying the drones. They will be operated remotely to ensure the safety of the response team. A recent demonstration even featured a person in a bear costume as a target!
For travelers to the Miyagi Prefecture, this means increased safety measures are in place to mitigate potential risks associated with wildlife encounters. While bear attacks have decreased recently, these drones represent a proactive approach to ensure visitor safety.
