Travel provider Jalan surveyed users for eastern Japan's most magical winter scenery. From frozen waterfalls to snow-covered shrines, discover the top 10 spots.

East Japan offers stunning winter scenery, and a recent survey reveals the top spots. Travelers can explore frozen waterfalls like Fukuroda Falls in Tochigi or witness the 'sea of clouds' at Kanozankujukutani Observatory Park in Chiba. Don't miss the Yunishigawa Onsen Kamakura Matsuri in Tochigi, where hundreds of snow domes are illuminated by candles.

For breathtaking views of Mt. Fuji, head to Lake Ashi in Hakone, where you can appreciate the snow-capped peak without enduring extreme cold. Visit Akagi Shrine in Gunma, located next to Lake Onuma, for a striking contrast between the shrine's crimson color and the surrounding snow. Lake Okushima in Higashiagatsuma offers the vibrant 'Shima blue' waters against a backdrop of fresh snow.

Explore Ryuokyo Gorge in Tochigi, with its unique rock formations resembling a dragon, and then warm up in nearby Kinugawa Onsen or Kawaji Onsen. See the Misotsuchi Icicles in Chichibu City, Saitama, which can reach up to 8 meters in length. Finally, experience Mt. Haruna in Gunma, where the adjacent lake transforms into a solid block of ice and snow.
